I recently came across something called lean maxing. At first, it just seemed like another trend. Young men trying to get as lean as possible to improve their appearance. But then I started seeing more about it. I saw that young women were getting into it too. And the more I thought about it, the more it started to feel like something bigger.

Because it does not stop at lean maxing.

You see it in cosmetic procedures becoming more common. Fillers, surgeries, and people making changes to their appearance at younger ages. You see it in productivity culture, where people feel like they need to optimize every part of their lives. You see it in the constant push to become a better version of yourself.

There is nothing wrong with improving yourself. Growth is a normal part of life. Wanting to get healthier, more focused, or more confident is not a bad thing.

But there is a difference between improving yourself and trying to fix yourself.

Improvement comes from growth. Trying to fix yourself usually comes from feeling like something is wrong with you.

And it feels like more people are starting from that place.

A lot of people do not feel good about themselves right now. Not just occasionally, but in a deeper way. It feels like many people are walking around feeling like they are not enough. Like they need to change something about themselves before they can feel accepted.

When you look at the world people are living in, it is not hard to see why.

Life feels unstable for many people. Financial stress is common. The future feels uncertain. People are constantly comparing themselves to others online. On top of that, many people are carrying unresolved experiences that shape how they see themselves.

When you combine all of that, it becomes harder to build confidence. It becomes harder to feel secure. It becomes harder to feel comfortable in your own skin.

So people try to change themselves.

They try to become more attractive. More successful. More productive. More disciplined. More confident.

But sometimes, even after making those changes, the feeling does not go away.

Because self esteem is not something you build by becoming perfect. It is something you build by understanding yourself and feeling secure in who you are.

And that is hard to do in a high pressure world that constantly tells you that you are not enough.

This is why trends like lean maxing feel like more than just trends. They feel like symptoms of something deeper. A growing struggle with self esteem that more people seem to be experiencing.

Maybe the first step is simply recognizing that.

Because once you recognize it, you may start to realize that you are not broken. You might just be living in a world that makes it harder to feel good about yourself.
